How come there are not any electric outboard motors for models? They all seem to be glo-fuel ones for high speed racing boats.

Hi OldWoodBoats,

Are you thinking of a stand-alone electric model boat motor? The problem there would probably be "battery size/power output/time duration for usage"... Still, there are sites like this one...

Hope this helps...

Thanks! I have plans for a 15' 6" outboard punt that I bought from the Smithsonian Not having the garage I used to have. Want to build a 31" working model. I got to thinking that there are many ouboard boats that someone would like to build a working model of. Maybe a motor that has a separate battery supply?

Hi Oldwoodboats,

Would the model function as a test bed for the real boat, or would it be a stand-alone project?

Since I no longer have the garage to build the full size boat.. It would be a R/C model . Not looking for any motor that's fancy, (Expensive) Just a decent outboard for a boat about 24-31".

Hi Oldwoodboats,

I'd be tempted to go inboard with just a mock up of an outboard motor...

Also... No garage? Can you use a friend's?

Have a friend who has a garage with a lot of woodworking tools. But, sharing it with his wife. He can't even get to the tools! Use to have a garage. Made musical instruments and a cold molded Pram. But, having to move out of the house. Can't do anything! I have neat plans for full size sailboats of a sharpie, 2 masted Garvey,A stick-up rig boat. And a crabbing skiff. But am only able to build them as models for now.

Hi Oldwoodboats,

Here's a thought... Post a request on Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org/... be sure to look up your local area...) asking for garage/workshop space... The wife and I have used this umpteen times, and it has never let us down. You may have to trade services a bit, but we've always found it great.
