For lack of a crew to sail the full-size boat, I decided to build the Bolger Light Schooner (from Dynamite Payson's book Build the New Instant Boats) at 1/6 scale. The original is 23.5 feet long and is designed to be made out of plywood. The hull and rig are scale, but I added a fixed keel (on the centerline, because the masts are deck stepped now) with a lead bulb, and I changed the rudder design. I also added a bowsprit.
The hull is 3/16 inch luan plywood leftover from a full-size stitch and glue canoe, so you could probably stand on it without breaking it. No fiberglass, just primer, paint and urethane. The hull came together in a day, and the finishing and rigging took several weeks. I added a topsail to the main mast to balance the extra jib and it sails pretty well...
