I tried red first, Jim would be so proud, then I tried green and blue.

I built this about a year before I started the actual boat and it's been on my shop wall since 2000. I dusted off the model after I finished my new decks and forgot that I had put decks striping on the model. It will probably be next year before I make the floor boards, so that be only 10 years that I have taken to make the boat match the model, except for the paint and sail color.

It is still too cold to work outside, and the repeated melt & freezing of the snow off the roof has created a 4" thick ice slab around my boat. I thought I'd upgrade the model to match the black hull paint and red sails in my heated shed instead.

The model is Sailor Scout Scale, and this depicts the crew pretty good, except for the goofy looking character they put on the helm.

Hi Bill,

Correct me where I'm wrong, (and I will no doubt be...) The "Sailor Moon Deluxe Adventure Doll" (with the red bow tie) is roughly 11.5" tall... To get perspective, how does that compare to the boat model size?

Also, if I were decades younger and a "Sailor Alan Adventure Doll", I think I'd want to be on your Schooner model with crew... Then again, "Sailor Suzie Adventure Doll" (my wife) would probably find me whilst she was carrying a "Sailor Cast Iron Skillet" and that would be all that she wrote for me... :-D

Seriously, great model, and am interested in the scale sizes...

Alan, thanks for the reply that really made my day.

Along that topic, if the masts could be replaced with brass poles, my "Sailor Adventure (wife) Arleen", would give me a " Short Adventure Walk" off the plank.

Anyway, these dolls are smaller than Barbie (11.5") dolls and are just 6", so the scale is 1/12, or an inch to a foot.

Hey, weren't you going to build a new boat? I am intrigued by the Bolger Bantam for a retirement boat. Being the electrical & mechanical engineer type, I'd really like to put a couple Torqeedo Cruise 4's (10hp ea) on the outboard hulls, a couple wind generators on the front of the cabin, and my 90 amp 12Vdc /4 hp generator to recharge batteries and push the fuel economy of the outboard to only be used when the batteries have to be charged.

Gotta get back to my sail making, then a cover during towing and some sort of dodger enclosure. No shortage of ideas.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the scale...

Once again, you made a great model of the Schooner. I should do that for my favorite, the Teal.

And yes, I was going to start another boat. (No, I will start another boat!) Unfortunately, several things stand in the way...

* I need to finish my Bolger Micro
* I have a lot of work to do on the house. (Paint, replace windows, re-shingle, re-do two bathrooms, etc.)
* Work is crazy
* Most importantly, I've promised the wife that I'd finish a hutch I started for her years ago before I start another boat...

Thanks for asking...

Alan
